Melissa Imossi

Painter

Melissa Imossi is an award-winning contemporary realist painter whose work explores the quiet poetry of light in the natural world. Born on Long Island, New York, she developed an early connection to water and landscape, observing shifting reflections and atmosphere—an influence that continues to shape her work.

Known for intimate studies of nature, she focuses on light, movement, and pattern to create immersive, contemplative compositions. Her recent lake paintings, inspired by the water behind her studio in Madison, Connecticut, capture fleeting reflections and luminous surface effects.

Melissa studied at the Art Students League of New York and the Angel Academy of Art in Florence. She is a member of several professional art organizations and has received numerous national awards. She currently exhibits at the BACA Gallery in Branford, CT.

Artist Statement:

I am drawn to the natural world as a quiet counterpoint to the speed and noise of modern life. As we spend more time indoors immersed in technology, we often overlook the simple beauty that surrounds us.

My recent work focuses on close-up studies of the lake behind my studio, observing how light moves across and through the water. I explore the way sunlight shimmers on the surface, filters through the shallows, and transforms reflections as the seasons change. These subtle shifts of light, color, and movement form the heart of my paintings.

I also paint local landscapes that bring me a sense of peace. Through my work, I hope to invite a sense of stillness, presence, and reconnection with nature.
