Jan Vanderburg

Having moved to the Long Island shoreline in 2022 from New Mexico, I'm still taken by the stunning contrast between this coastal environment and the high desert landscapes where I've worked for so many years.

Colors, shapes, textures and the light of the landscape are my inspirations while the printmaking process of Reduction Linocut is my medium of choice to bring these inspirations to life for me. As the print comes to life, the final product may scarcely resemble the landscape or design I started with. I constantly adjust the shapes and colors depending on what occurred when the last color was applied. It's a continuous exploratory process and each print is a new challenge.
