Jan Vanderburg

Having recently moved to the Long Island shoreline after 40 years living in New Mexico, I'm struck by the stunning differences between these two places.  Colors, shapes, textures and the light in the landscape are my starting points while the printmaking process of Reduction Linocut is my medium of choice.  As each print comes to life, I constantly adjust the shapes and colors depending on what occurred when the last color of ink was applied.  It's a continuous exploratory process and each print is a new challenge.  The challenge comes as I print layer after layer of ink and make decisions as I go.  There are always surprises.
