Laurie Douglas
Painter, Mixed Media Artist
Laurie Douglas' paintings and mixed media works are about color, landscape, and impressions of the natural world. She makes complex pieces, often with many layers of paint, texture and drawing, that reinterpret organic forms through the dual lenses of imagination and memory. "What lies beneath the surface," both literally and metaphorically, is a recurrent theme. Many recent works are done in encaustic (pigment permanently burned into wax.)
Laurie is a member of the CT Women Artists Association and the New Haven Paint and Clay Club. She has exhibited widely in juried shows at galleries throughout New England (among them The Greene Gallery and The Mill Gallery in Guilford, The Slater Memorial Museum in Norwich, Artspace in New Haven, and The Field Gallery in West Tisbury, Massacusetts.)
